HANSEL AND GRETEL

SCRIPT

SCENE1:

(Gretel sit on the floor with a bowl of egg in her lift hand and a whisk in her right hand. She is looking up to the ceiling with empty expression in her eyes.)

(Then she just happened to remind something, she turns her face to right and sees her brother siting in a cage.)

The witch: what are you doing? You are not working, you

lazy stupid! Go to fetch a pail of water!

(Gretel walk out, she pull the pail out of the well. She stares at the reflection of her face in the water.)

The witch: Gretel! Where are you!

(Gretel takes the pail and walk towards the candy house. She hears something suddenly. It is a man’s voice calling: Gretel! Hansel!)

(She drops the pail and rush into the forest.)

“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!”

(But there is nothing answering back.)

SCENE2

(Gretel stands at the table and whipping the egg again.)

Witch: next time if you runs away again! There is not as easy as a no dinner punishment! You understand!

The witch takes a cake out of the oven, the steam and the smell spread and full of the room.

She takes this cake to Hansel: little Hansel! Dinner is coming! Y

ou luck boy! Look how fat you are now!

(Hansel eats the cake quickly. Gretel looks at her brother, but actually she is looking at the cake. She feels hungry.)

SCENE3

(The family is siting at the table eating their dinner, which is almost nothing. Father puts down his folk and say: )

what a nice meal! We are all fall now aren’t we?

Gretel: yes dad!

Hansel: of course not! It’s almost nothing! I am still hungry!

Mother: is that the way you speak to your parent! Young gentleman! Your father is working as hard as he can!

Hansel looks at his stepmother, and then looks at his father.

But father avoids his eyesight and say

“Go to your bed Hansel!”

Hansel leave the table without saying anything.

Gretel: good night daddy!

Father: good night my little girl, have a sweet dream.

SCENE4

Mother siting at the table, she looks callous.

Mother: I cannot stand this anymore! We have to throw away the children otherwise we will all die because of the starving!

Father: I can’t do that! My poor Gretel and Hansel!

Mother: face the truth! You have no choice!

Actually Hansel and Gretel is hiding behind the door listening to their conversation.

(Gretel carelessly makes some noise and she see her stepmother notice that, and as soon as she turns her face back, it changes to the witch’s face. Then she wakes up.)
